Online course systemic thinking for more impact

Inge explains a worksheet to a customer

You don’t have to despair at the complexity of the system!

With my help, you can create a map for your tricky problem.

This makes decisions easier and communication clearer.

6 months – accompanied, practical and applicable

For whom is systemic thinking helpful?

Systemic thinking helps anyone working on complex problems. People who social change towards a future fit for grandchildren and implement projects such as the transformation to sustainable agriculture or the fight against poverty. If the systemic perspective is missing, we often get bogged down in the many acute construction sites or time is invested in symptomatic solutions.

The program is aimed at employees in non-profit associations as well as association founders or social enterprises.

What you will take away from the online course

The aim of the 6-month online course on systemic thinking is for you to …

  • would have a well-founded system map of your central field of activity
  • everyone in the team had a common vocabulary so as not to talk at cross purposes
  • makes patterns visible from which you can derive concrete projects
  • have the ability to transfer this competence to other problem areas

Contents & procedure

Module 1 – Fundamentals of systemic thinking

We lay the foundation for systemic thinking and what systems actually are?

In a short simulation, you experience that your own perception is also part of a complex system.
You realize: We do not observe the system from the outside – we are part of it.

Module 2 – How causal loop diagrams work

Causal loop diagrams are an effective tool for visualizing the complex dynamics of systems. You begin to recognize structures – instead of just analyzing events.

Module 3 – essential element of your system

In many small exercises, you will develop the elements step by step that will later form your system map.

Optionally, you can also involve people who are not taking part in the course in this phase – to integrate additional perspectives and gain a broader view of your topic.

Module 4 – The system map is created

We now build your complete system map from the developed building blocks. We visualize these connections with the kumu.io software.

This creates a clear and at the same time in-depth representation of your system.

Module 5 – From the map to action

We are now deriving concrete next steps from your map. We are working on it:

  • How you clearly communicate the complexity of the system and your role in it
  • Which leverage points are available to you

Procedure – Essentials package

(for individuals)

You can take part in the Essential program as an individual. All content and instructions are made available to you in a protected member area – supplemented by a detailed workbook.

You can work through the modules at your own pace.

You are invited to the members area:

  • share your progress
  • Present interim results
  • Gain insights into the work of other teams

This exchange deepens and sharpens your learning experience.

On weekdays I give feedback in the forum and accompany your development processes.

In addition, we meet every 14 days for a joint consultation hour.
There you can ask questions, clarify open points and receive feedback on your preliminary results.

Procedure – Team Intensive package

for teams of up to 10 people

In the Team Intensive you will go through the online course Systemic Thinking together – supplemented by four face-to-face workshops that I will accompany online and in which we will create your system map.

Between the workshops, you can work on the content at your own pace in the protected member area: everyone can work through the content when it suits them best.

We work directly on your real field of activity and develop a jointly supported strategic basis for your organization.

You are invited to exchange ideas with other course participants but also outside the team in the members’ area:

  • share your progress
  • Present interim results
  • Gain insights into the work of other teams
